about me

M. S.: I've been living in Or-Yehuda, Israel, since 1971, but was born in USSR in 1959. My dream was to become a classical painter, but in my youth, for reasons that I still don't understand, realist painting was being actively discouraged. Until 1976 I painted mostly expressionistically and then quit completely. As I returned to painting after a 32 year long hiatus, it quickly became apparent to me that Classical Realism was still my passion. For me to paint the way I wanted, I had to get back to the basics: accurate drawing, understanding of values and color, etc,. Now I paint portraits professionally but continue to learn from each painting. The works on this blog are mostly studies documenting my technical progression.
